Ultra Throw Festival Showcases Strength Across All Divisions

The Ultra Throw Festival returned to McLeod Athletic Park on July 19–20, drawing athletes from across the province for two days of spirited competition in the throws. The event featured six disciplines: hammer, shot put, discus, javelin, weight, and super weight—providing a full spectrum of opportunity for development and high performance.

Thank you volunteers and officials from BC Athletics

  • Saturday, July 19 featured Junior Development (JD), U16, and U18 divisions, with 53 competitors representing 10 clubs.

  • Sunday, July 20 welcomed 31 athletes across 12 clubs, competing in U20, U23, Senior, and Masters divisions.

Day two included several outstanding performances now pending ratification as official records:

  • Shane Wiebe (55) – Shot Put (6kg): 13.61m

  • Shane Wiebe (55) – Super Weight (56lb): 7.90m

  • Shawn Stevens (52) – Super Weight (56lb): 7.59m

  • Christine Dalgleish (61) – Super Weight (20lb): 8.36m

Ultra Throw extends its heartfelt thanks to all the athletes who gave their best on the field, the committed volunteers who helped the event run smoothly, and the BC Athletics officials whose time and expertise ensure a top-tier standard of competition.

Masters Athletes after competing in Shot Put

Record-breaker, Christine Dalgleish said, “Thank you so much to the Ultra Throw Festival organizing committee and BC Athletics officials who took on this wonderful two-day event. You created an environment that was inclusive, inviting and welcoming. The challenging event saw the masters athletes rise to the challenge of taking on not only a throws pentathlon but also a throws triathlon and the super weight if we wished and boy, did I wish! I signed up for all that but the organizers and officials deserve the accolades for signing up to make it happen for us.”

This festival was a celebration of both emerging and experienced talent, and we’re proud to see the throwing community continue to grow.
