Shawn’s Remarkable Indoor Season

Toronto at the Canadian Masters Indoors

Winter in the greater Vancouver region often brings frigid temperatures, icy roads, and difficult training conditions. For track and field athletes, the off-season can present real challenges when preparing for both indoor and upcoming outdoor competitions.

Despite these conditions, one of Ultra Throw’s elite athletes, Shawn, demonstrated exceptional determination and resilience throughout a demanding month of competition across North America. From battling winter travel conditions to overcoming jet lag, Shawn consistently rose to the challenge—delivering strong performances, earning multiple medals, and even setting a new provincial record.

His efforts took him from Vancouver to Albuquerque, then across British Columbia and onward to Toronto, competing in four major meets within a single month.

Early Success at the Harry Jerome

The season began at the Harry Jerome Indoor Meet, held at the Richmond Olympic Oval on February 7, 2026.

With only the Shot Put contested among the throwing events, Shawn delivered a strong performance, throwing 10.16 m to earn the Silver Medal.

Competing on the International Stage

Just weeks later, Shawn travelled to Albuquerque for the USA Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships, held February 19–22, 2026.

Competing against top masters athletes from across North America and Europe, Shawn entered three throwing events and achieved impressive results:

  • Shot Put – 10.67 m — Bronze Medal

  • Super Weight Throw – 7.75 m — Bronze Medal

  • Weight Throw15.90 mPersonal Best and New BC Record, finishing 4th against a strong international field.

Setting a new provincial record while competing abroad was a major highlight of the season.

Kamloops and a Race Against Time

The next stop was the BC Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships in Kamloops, held March 6–7, 2026.

After competing on March 6, Shawn immediately began the next leg of his journey—driving through icy nighttime conditions back toward the coast to catch a flight for the Canadian Championships.

Before leaving Kamloops, he added two more medals to his growing tally:

  • Shot Put – 11.13 m — Silver Medal

  • Weight Throw – 13.39 m — Silver Medal

Golden Results in Toronto

Shawn arrived in Toronto just in time for the Canadian Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships, held March 7–8, 2026 at the Toronto Track & Field Centre.

Despite the demanding travel schedule, he delivered his strongest results of the season:

  • Shot Put – 10.43 m — Gold Medal

  • Weight Throw – 13.57 m — Gold Medal

Resilience and a Record-Setting Season

Across four competitions in one month, Shawn’s performances reflected remarkable perseverance, adaptability, and competitive spirit. Battling winter weather, long travel days, and international competition, he still managed to produce a personal best and a new BC record in the Weight Throw.

His achievements have proudly placed Ultra Throw among some of the best masters throwing communities in North America.

With the outdoor season ahead—and the World Masters Athletics Championships in Daegu on the horizon—this indoor campaign is a strong indication of even greater performances to come.

We congratulate Shawn on an outstanding indoor season and wish him continued success as he prepares for the outdoor competitions ahead.
