Gold Rush and BC Record at USATF Championships
Four Ultra Throw athletes crossed the border to compete at the 2026 USATF Pacific Northwest Zone Masters Championships in Seattle on June 19–20, returning home with an impressive medal haul and a potential new British Columbia record.
The annual championship attracted a stellar field of competitors, including numerous current and former World Masters champions, creating a highly competitive atmosphere across the throwing events. Despite the hot and humid conditions, athletes delivered outstanding performances throughout the two-day competition.
Ultra Throw was proudly represented by Shawn Stevens, Paramjit Gill, Mohan Bains, and Harnek Toor, who combined to win 10 gold medals, two silver medals, one bronze medal, and set a potential provincial record.
Individual Results
Shawn Stevens
🥇 Gold – Hammer Throw – 35.93 m
🥇 Gold – Weight Throw – 13.64 m
🥇 Gold – Super Weight Throw – 6.32 m
🥇 Gold – Discus – 35.08 m
Shawn delivered another dominant performance, winning four Gold medals with victories in the Hammer Throw, Weight Throw, Super Weight Throw, and Discus.
Paramjit Gill
🥇 Gold – Hammer Throw – 28.86 m
🥇 Gold – Weight Throw – 11.31 m
🥇 Gold – Super Weight Throw – 5.61 m
Paramjit continued his outstanding season by capturing three Gold medals in Seattle.
Mohan Bains
🥈 Silver – Hammer Throw – 22.43 m
🥈 Silver – Weight Throw – 10.40 m
Mohan earned Silver medals in both the Hammer Throw and Weight Throw against a highly competitive field.
Harnek Toor
🥇 Gold – Hammer Throw – 35.69 m
🥇 Gold – Weight Throw – 15.47 m (Pending BC Athletics record ratification)
🥉 Bronze – Super Weight Throw – 7.57 m
Harnek's highlight performance came in the Weight Throw, where his mark of 15.47 metres surpassed the existing British Columbia record of 15.40 metres, previously held by Marek Glowacki. The performance is pending ratification by BC Athletics and, if approved, will establish a new provincial record.
A First-Class Competition
The championships were hosted under the leadership of George Mathews, whose dedication to Masters athletics once again resulted in a well-organized and welcoming event. In addition to competing himself, George and the organizing committee ensured athletes enjoyed a memorable championship experience.
