Shawn Stevens Makes His Mark in Mexico

Shawn Stevens impressed at the 2025 NCC World Masters in Mexico, capturing three medals and turning heads with his powerful performances.

Ultra Throw’s own Shawn Stevens delivered an unforgettable NCCMA debut at the 2025 North, Central American and Caribbean (NCC) Masters Athletics Championships, held November 6–9, in Mexico City.

This biannual championship brought together 1013 athletes from 26 countries, including competitors from across the Americas as well as Britain, the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Chile, and Argentina. The setting added to the magic—events unfolded in the shadow of the iconic stadium that hosted the 1968 Olympic Games, with medal ceremonies held beneath its historic façade. Ideal weather and an electric atmosphere made the four-day meet a true celebration of Masters athletics.

Canada sent a strong team of 32 athletes, who collectively earned 38 gold, 30 silver, and 14 bronze medals, placing the nation third overall in the team standings.

A Breakout Meet for Shawn Stevens

Shawn represented Ultra Throw with grit, focus, and exceptional talent—registering four throwing events across the four days of competition.

Discus Throw – Gold Medal & Personal Best
Facing a field of six competitors, Shawn delivered a massive 36.81m throw—his personal best—to win gold by more than three metres.

Hammer Throw – Silver Medal & Personal Best
In a highly competitive field of seven athletes, Shawn once again rose to the occasion. His 39.91m throw marked another personal best, earning him a well-fought silver medal.

Weight Throw – Silver Medal
Shawn carried his momentum straight into the weight throw, where he secured a second silver with a strong 13.68m performance.

Shot Put – 6th Place
Despite travel delays and jet lag, Shawn put in a solid effort with a 10.29m throw—an experience, he noted, that will help shape smarter preparation for future international competitions.

A Crowd Favourite in Mexico City

Beyond the results, Shawn quickly became a standout figure at the Championships. His powerful throws, imposing presence, and Team Canada kit drew spectators who eagerly gathered for photos. As Shawn shared:

“People wanted to have a photograph with me—some because of my big discus performance, others because I was the biggest guy there in Team Canada clothes. Many had never seen world-class throwers before, so I was the biggest or best they’d ever seen. The Mexican hosts were gracious and supportive of everyone. I would return in a heartbeat if they ever hosted it again.”

A Promising International Future

Shawn’s exceptional debut on the world stage not only showcased his talent but also laid the foundation for future success. His performances in Mexico reflect the strength, discipline, and passion he brings to Ultra Throw—and we couldn’t be prouder.

Congratulations, Shawn! You’ve done Ultra Throw and Canada proud. We look forward to seeing where your journey takes you next.
