Season Culminates with Strong Performances

Competitors from U18 on Sept. 21

The competitive season for Club Ultra Throw concluded with its Annual Championships Meet held September 20–21 at McLeod Athletic Park in Langley. What was first planned as an in-house affair quickly expanded due to popular demand, attracting throwers from across the province — including athletes from as far as Prince George, Quesnel, and Vancouver Island.

In addition to Ultra Throw members, the competition featured athletes from Ocean Athletics, Greyhounds Track & Field Club, Valley Royal Athletics Club, Victoria Track & Field Club, Thunderbirds Athletics Club, and Cowichan Athletics Club. In total, more than 49 athletes registered across both the Under-20, Seniors and Masters divisions, competing in the full slate of throwing events: Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, Hammer, Weight Throw, Super Weight Throw, Throws Pentathlon, and Throws Triathlon.

Highlights from the Youth Division

Shot Put: 12-year-old Udayvir Singh Deol (Valley Royal) impressed with a throw of 9.61m, while Ethan Lau (Ultra Throw) reached 12.68m and Karman Bains (Valley Royal) managed 10.46m. In the girls’ section, German Sandhu and Gurpartap Sandhu (both Valley Royals) stood out with strong performances.

Discus: Alexander Cheung (Victoria T&F) led the way with 46.99m, followed by Karanvir Deol (Valley Royal) at 30.25m.

Javelin: Sturrock Dheilly (Kajaks) recorded 44.93m, edging out Colin Kalheim (Thunderbirds) at 43.18m. On the girls’ side, McKinley Wasyliw (Thunderbirds) threw 28.84m.

Hammer: Ultra Throw’s own Megan Toelis delivered the standout throw of 44.42m, with Madeleine De Steur reaching 29.95m.

Masters and seniors (Flight 1)

Masters Division Performances

The Masters field saw remarkable depth and record-setting performances:

Christine Dalgleish and Joan Harris (Prince George) excelled across all six standard throws, as well as the Pentathlon and Triathlon.

Devyn Erickson (Cowichan) set a BC Record in the Weight Throw at 9.40m.

Reider Zapf-Gilje (Greyhounds, M70–74) and Marcel Kosierb also turned in standout performances, with Kosierb reaching 36.28m in the Discus.

Ultra Throw Club Results

Ultra Throw athletes closed the season on a high note with multiple podium finishes:

Ken Townsend: 🥇 Gold – Hammer, Discus, Throws Pentathlon; 🥈 Silver – Shot Put, Weight Throw.

Jim Dyer: 🥇 Gold – Weight Throw, Super Weight Throw.

David Ulis: 🥇 Gold – Discus, Javelin, Shot Put, Throws Pentathlon, Throws Triathlon; 🥈 Silver– Hammer, Weight Throw.

Saroop Tatla: 🥇 Gold – Hammer, Weight Throw; 🥈 Silver – Discus, Javelin, Shot Put, Throws Pentathlon, Throws Triathlon.

Andrew Arthur: 🥇 Gold – Weight Throw, Super Weight Throw, Throws Pentathlon; 🥈 Silver – Shot Put, Discus, Hammer, Javelin. He also set a new BC Super Weight Throw Record with 7.59m.

Robbin Whachell: 🥈 Silver – Discus, Javelin, Throws Pentathlon, Throws Triathlon. 🥉 Bronze – Hammer, Shot Put, Weight Throw; Robbin was third in the overall Triathlon results.

Closing the Season

The Ultra Throw Championships not only celebrated the best of the club’s athletes but also strengthened ties with the wider throwing community in B.C.

With record-breaking performances, strong youth participation, and steady progress from club members, the meet was a fitting finale to a successful season.
