Ultra Throw Holds 2020 AGM and Elections

The Ultra Throw annual general meeting was held on September 20 at McLeod Athletic Park in Langley.

The meeting was held next to the shot put area and physical distance measures were in effect.

Congrats to the new 2020/21 executive who include the following:

  • President, Jody Cranston

  • Vice-President and Media Director, Robbin Whachell

  • Treasurer and Past President, Dave McDonald

  • Registrar, Betsy Rollins

  • Director, Harnek Toor

  • Director, Mohan Bains

Due to the pandemic, training has not reconvened for 2020, and start-up for 2021 was discussed. Practice is tentatively set to begin in March 2021 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m.

The Ultra Throw annual general meeting was held on September 28 at McLeod Athletic Park in Surrey.

It was a time to come together and celebrate the successes of the season over a barbecue lunch in the picnic area of the park.

Thanks to those who participated, and congrats to Rose Hare who took home both of our coveted awards.

Results of the 2019 Challenge Trophy (aggregate throws pentathlon point total for Ultra Throw Festivals were:

Results of the 2019 Ultra Cup (single highest throws pentathlon points scored in Ultra Throw Festivals were:

  • Rose Hare – Winner

  • Jo Peters – 2nd

  • Dave Ulis – 3rd

The 2019 Ambassador of the Year is yet to be determined and will be done so by a club vote via email.

After the awards the meeting portion took place.

Two positions are pending and will soon be determined and after that time the full executive will be announced.

Ultra Throw Celebrates Successes of the Season

Team Ultra Throw gathered for a casual get together at McLeod Athletic Park in Langley on October 14 to celebrate a successful season and salute members who went above and beyond in either athletic achievement or contributions to the Club.

After enjoying conversation and a barbecue lunch, club president, Dave McDonald announced seven Ultra members who made the top 15 in the World Masters Rankings. That’s pretty impressive for a club of approximately 25 people! The following are those members whose name sit among the world’s best:

  • Andrew Arthur (M55-59) – 10th in Super Weight

  • Gabriella Moro (W70-74) – 8th in Discus

  • Jo Peters (M60-64) – 7th in Throws Pentathlon

  • Dave Ulis (M70-74) – 15th in Javelin & 12th in Super Weight

  • Harnek Toor (M70-74) – 14th in Throws Pentathlon & 5th in Super Weight

  • Michael Deady (M65-69) – 11th in Shot Put & 5th in Discus,

  • Rose Hare (W65-69) – 13th in Hammer, 12th in Weight, 10th in Discus, 6th in Throws Pentathlon & 2nd in Super Weight

Members who set BC and Canadian records:

Michael Deady set a Canadian Record (M65-69) in the Discus 46.10m, and he also set a BC Record (65-69) in the Shot Put 12.54m.

Harnek Toor set an indoor BC Record (M70-74) in the Weight 15.77m. He also set a BC Record (M70-74) in the Super Weight 8.13m.

Jo Peters set a BC Record (M60-64) in the Throws Pentathlon with 3813 points.

The ‘Challenge Trophy’ is given to the club member who scores the highest accumulated scores at our Ultra Throw festivals in the Throws Pentathlon.

Results: 1st Harnek Toor (see photo at top); 2nd Andrew Arthur; and 3rd Dave Ulis

The ‘Ultra Cup’ is given to the member who has the highest score in the Throws Pentathlon at any of our Ultra Throw festivals.

Ambassador of the Year’ was awarded posthumously to Scot Henney, and received by his son, Matthew, accompanied by his grandchildren Quinn and Gina (seen below).

The Club will now take a bit of a rest before starting training for the 2019 season, of which registration is already underway.

Team Ultra Throw Well Represented at Canadian Masters Championships

The Canadian Masters Track & Field Championships were hosted in western Canada this year to the delight of west coast athletes, and team Ultra Throw was very well represented at the event which was hosted by Oceans Athletics from August 3 - 5, 2018 at the South Surrey Athletic Park. 

Competing for Ultra Throw along with athletes from across the country (and from New Zealand, the US and India) was: Andrew Arthur, Mohan Bains, Rose Hare, John Hodgson, David Kotula, Andrew Natale, Harnek Toor, Gabriella Moro, Johannes Peters, Elisabeth Rollins, Robbin Whachell, Celina Wong, and David Ulis.

The team garnered over 60 medals collectively.

Congratulations to Johanne 'Jo' Peters (64) who broke a record for the Throws Pentathlon with 3619 points.
